CIS Support
Stress-free CIS support
CIS brings its own monthly routine: subcontractors to verify, deductions to calculate, statements to issue and returns to submit.
When the bookkeeping behind it is kept current, the process becomes much easier to manage. Invi can take care of your contractor CIS obligations alongside your regular bookkeeping, keeping the records and monthly submission connected.
Prepared as we go
CIS returns shouldn't begin at the deadline
Your CIS return depends on what actually happened during the month: which subcontractors were paid, what the payments included, and whether deductions were required.
That information should already be reflected in your bookkeeping.
By looking after both, I can review the transactions as part of the wider picture rather than trying to rebuild the month just before the return is due, resulting in fewer missing details, fewer last-minute questions and a more consistent monthly process.
What's included:
- Verifying new subcontractors with HMRC
- Confirming the correct deduction status
- Reviewing subcontractor invoices and payments
- Calculating CIS deductions where required
- Preparing and submitting the monthly contractor return
- Filing nil returns when no subcontractors have been paid
- Preparing payment and deduction statements
- Confirming the amount due to HMRC
- Keeping the supporting records organised in Xero
You’ll still authorise payments and provide the information needed, but you won’t have to piece the return together by yourself each month.
Is this right for you?
For businesses paying subcontractors under CIS
This service is designed for small contractors who:
- Use subcontractors as part of their work
- Need to submit monthly CIS returns
- Want subcontractor payments recorded properly in Xero
- Would rather have CIS managed as part of their bookkeeping
- Want to know what is due and when
- Prefer a regular process rather than a monthly scramble
It may suit builders and trades, but CIS can also apply to businesses outside the traditional construction sector when they spend enough on construction work.
Where the position is unclear, specialist tax advice may be needed before deciding whether CIS applies.
Instead of waiting until the return is due, I keep the bookkeeping up to date throughout the period. That means your CIS return is based on records that have already been looked after, checked and kept in shape.
A regular monthly routine
How it works
You provide the information
Subcontractor invoices, payment details and information about any new subcontractors are supplied through the agreed bookkeeping process.
The transactions are reviewed
I check the payments recorded for the CIS month, including the split between labour, materials and other relevant amounts.
The return is prepared
The figures are brought together, and any missing or unusual information is raised with you.
You approve the submission
Once the return is ready, you’ll have the opportunity to confirm that the information is complete and correct.
The return is filed
The monthly return is submitted to HMRC, and the relevant payment and deduction statements are prepared.
CIS returns from £20 per month
Added to your bookkeeping package, depending on the number of subcontractors and the complexity of the return.
Bookkeeping & CIS Returns from £110 per month
Your monthly fee is based on the amount of bookkeeping activity and complexity, including processing bills and invoices, reconciling bank transactions, and managing your bank feeds.
Pricing
CIS support from £20 per month
CIS support is available as an add-on to monthly bookkeeping packages. The fee covers the regular checks behind the return, including reviewing subcontractor payments, calculating any deductions, preparing the monthly submission and confirming what is due to HMRC.
Your price will mainly depend on:
- The number of subcontractors being paid
- How frequently new subcontractors need verifying
- The volume and quality of the records provided
- Whether deductions and statements are straightforward
- The amount of follow-up needed before each submission
Your fee will be agreed in advance, so you know what is covered.
A few important boundaries
What CIS support does (and doesn't) cover
It does not automatically include:
- Employment status assessments
- Contract reviews
- CIS registration or deregistration work
- Gross payment status applications
- Historic return corrections
- HMRC investigations or disputes
- Complex decisions about whether particular work falls within CIS
- Payroll or employment tax advice
